Routine and preventative care are the cornerstones of your pet’s happiest, healthiest life! From specialized and preventive care when they are young to regular wellness checks as they age, our goal is to prevent health issues before they arise. Routine care includes regular wellness examinations, vaccinations, dental care, external and internal parasite prevention, dietary management, behavioral counseling, and more.
Wellness exams allow us to really get to know your pet and what’s normal for them! It also helps us establish a baseline for your pet’s health, as well as help us quickly detect any changes that may indicate problems. Health problems often go undetected in pets, and they can become more serious and difficult to treat by the time they’re detected. Even if your pet appears healthy, make sure they have their regular checkups! We highly recommend annual exams for adult pets and twice-yearly exams for senior pets. As pets age, routine bloodwork or radiographs can also be an essential component of their wellness care, as it allows us to monitor the aging process and keep them feeling at their best for as long as possible.
Why does my pet need vaccinations?
Vaccinations are vital to not only your pet’s health but also to the health of the larger pet and human community. They are a preventive measure against infectious diseases like:
- Parvovirus
- Parainfluenza virus
- Distemper
- Lyme Disease
- Panleukopenia
- Feline Leukemia Virus
- Rabies
- Leptospirosis
- Bordatella
Vaccinations are essential for puppies, kittens, and other young animals with immature immune systems. Vaccinations generally begin at six to eight weeks of age for puppies and kittens. They are then are boostered every three to four weeks until they’re about six months of age. From that point, vaccines are boostered as needed and recommended by your veterinarian.
Vaccinations are not only vital to protecting your pet’s health, but also to protecting the health of the larger pet and human community.
