Dental Care

As pet owners, we often focus on providing our furry companions with the best nutrition, exercise, and grooming routines. However, one aspect of pet care frequently overlooked is dental health. Regular dental care for your cat or dog is integral to their overall health care! Artemis Veterinary is proud to offer superior pet dental care, including cleaning, polishing, extractions, and dental X-rays.

It’s More than Fresh Breath

Taking proper care of your dog or cat’s oral health is about so much more than making sure those kisses stay sweet—although that is a nice perk. Dental disease is one of the most common health issues our pets face, and recent studies have shown that by the time a dog or cat is three years old, they’re showing some signs of periodontal disease. As periodontal disease advances, it leads to pain, tooth loss, and a decreased quality of life. The harmful bacteria in the mouth spreads to other parts of the body, causing damage to a pet’s kidneys, liver, and heart.

Signs your pet might have a dental issue include:

  • Drooling, chewing oddly, or dropping food from the mouth
  • Reduced appetite or behavior changes
  • Facial swelling
  • Bad breath
  • Loose, broken, or discolored teeth
  • Bloody saliva
  • Pawing or rubbing at their mouth

We recommend annual dental exams for all pets and professional dental procedures as your veterinarian recommends. Regular brushing with pet-friendly toothpaste, providing dental chews and toys, and incorporating dental diets into your pet’s nutrition plan can help reduce plaque and tartar buildup. If you’re unsure how to get started brushing your pet’s teeth at home, we’re here to help—ask us for a demo at your next visit!
